MINING & RESOURCES

Power and infrastructure decisions that protect production and project value.

FD helps mining companies, project developers and investors plan, procure and evaluate power and supporting infrastructure. We combine technical understanding with commercial discipline to reduce risk, challenge assumptions and protect the reliability and economics of the operation.

WHY IT MATTERS

The power system is part of the production system.

At a mining operation, power is not a background utility. It is a production-critical asset whose reliability, operating cost and contract structure can materially affect output, margin and the value of the mine. Decisions must account for load growth, life-of-mine, expansion plans, fuel and network constraints, technology integration, commercial exposure and the realities of remote delivery.

FD gives owners an independent view before capital is committed or long-term commercial positions are locked in.

DECISIONS WE HELP CLIENTS MAKE

The questions we help owners answer.

What power configuration best supports the mine plan, load profile and reliability requirement?
Should the owner self-develop, procure an EPC solution, enter an IPP or PPA structure, or retain optionality between models?
How should solar, wind, battery storage, gas, diesel or electrification be staged and integrated?
Are the vendor, EPC, IPP and technology proposals complete, competitive and aligned with the owner’s requirements?
What grid connection, augmentation, transmission or utility constraints could affect cost and schedule?
How should reliability, redundancy, maintenance and future expansion be valued in the commercial assessment?
Which decarbonisation measures are technically practical and commercially justified without compromising production?
Where are the material technical, contractual and interface risks before approval or financial commitment?
HOW FD HELPS

Power systems expertise with commercial discipline.

Mine power strategy and master planning

Load assessment, life-of-mine alignment, reliability requirements, expansion scenarios, option screening and staged power roadmaps.

Generation and hybrid-system evaluation

Assessment of thermal, solar, wind, battery storage, grid and electrification options, including integration with existing operations.

Procurement, tendering and commercial strategy

Owner’s requirements, tender documentation, bid evaluation and negotiation support across EPC, IPP, PPA and equipment-supply models.

Grid, network and utility strategy

Connection pathways, utility engagement, augmentation and transmission planning and network-interface risk, including Western Power engagement.

Owner-side assurance and due diligence

Independent review of assumptions, proposals, commercial structures and material risks for owners, investors and lenders.

Operational performance and decarbonisation

Performance review, benchmarking, new-generation integration and practical emissions-reduction pathways that respect reliability and production constraints.

EXPERIENCE INFORMING OUR ADVICE

Delivered at senior level on major operations.

Om’s experience before establishing FD includes strategic, technical and commercial involvement in major hybrid-power projects and opportunities for Mount Magnet, Kathleen Valley, Mt Weld, Jundee, Kestrel, Stanmore and Laverton. His earlier owner-side and advisory work also included Homestead, Kanowna Belle, Paddington, the Coolgardie Microgrid and West Musgrave. Across these roles, he contributed to project development, techno-economic modelling, EPC, IPP and PPA evaluation, tendering, business cases and commercial negotiation.

Camila complements this capability with sustainability, rating-system, design-coordination and delivery experience from complex industrial and infrastructure projects. Together, the founders help clients align power, commercial and sustainability decisions instead of treating them as disconnected workstreams.

Project experience referenced on this page was delivered by our founders in previous roles before the establishment of FD Advisory Group. Project names are included only where public disclosure is appropriate.

WHO WE SUPPORT

One body of evidence, useful to every stakeholder.

Boards, chief executives and investment committees evaluating capital and strategic options
Chief financial officers and commercial teams assessing cost, contract and downside exposure
Project directors and study teams developing new mines, expansions and replacement assets
Engineering, operations and maintenance teams responsible for reliability and integration
Infrastructure investors and lenders requiring a clear view of physical-asset and delivery risk

Founder-led advice, scaled to the engagement

Every FD engagement is led by the founders. Where the scope requires additional engineering, modelling, legal, market or delivery depth, we bring appropriately qualified specialists into a coordinated team built around the client’s decision.
